The Storytellers

Leigh and Patrick have been the presiding STs in Hidden Cove since about 2001.

This is not a new position to Leigh, who has been among one of the managing forces of Hidden Cove in all it's incarnations since nearly it's beginnings in 1999 on Yahoo groups.

Patrick came to join Hidden Cove in 2000 and has been one of it's STs since 2001.

Leigh has been playing Vampire the Masquerade since approximately 1998 and has been involved in various other roleplaying games on the web since about 1997.

Patrick has been playing Vampire the Masquerade since the very first rulebook came out in 1991 and his general roleplaying experience on and off the web spans back over 20 years.

So as you can see our Storytellers have considerable roleplaying experience between them, but more than that, they have the experience of playing in Hidden Cove, the city and the game, for Leigh since it's humble beginnings and for Patrick, since not long after.

We took a moment to sit down with Patrick and allow him just to talk about his experience playing and storytelling in Hidden Cove.

"When I first came to Hidden Cove, it was on the suggestion of a friend of mine that I introduced to Vampire. She and I had both come to the point in our lives when we no longer had the time nor inclination for a table top game, but also weren't quite so sure about playing on the internet - especially not in the way we were accustomed to playing. She had found Hidden Cove and been playing there for some months before she finally convinced me to come and give it a try.

When I first came to the Cove, I actually took over a character my friend had been playing as an npc. It was a character I had once upon a time developed, so I was comfortable with the role. I took on that role with the intention of placating her, nearly convinced it would not be something I would care to stick with.

What I found astounded me.

There was your, in those days, typical group of gamers that just wanted to "twink out" as we call it, but underneath all the problem players and fly by night groupies that came and went as they do in roleplaying games, was a group of solid, excellant gamers that happened to also be excellant writers. Through them and the stories they wove, the game came to life in a whole new way on this medium that I had not yet seen.

They continued their stories, their plans and their game undaunted by those others that seemed to enjoy nothing more than creating a situation only to turn around and blow it all to pieces moments later. These excellant players took it all in stride, dealt with it, played around it and in general simply continued to enjoy the game - sometimes in spite of these hinderances, other times in addition to them.

Well it didn't take me long to decide, I had found a place to call home once again and I have been a rather proud resident ever since. Many of those players I had the priveledge of knowing in those early days have moved along to other things. Occasionally we have a reappearance by one or two and we welcome them back with open arms. Thankfully most of the "problem" players we have seen go and haven't come back. In their place, we have managed to garner an excellant cast of glorious players and characters and seen our city and our game continue to grow and prosper under their gentle ministrations.

Leigh and I are more than privledged to be a part of and be called "Storytellers" for such a wonderful cast - but in truth, it is those players that are the true "Storytellers" for our game - with Leigh and I taking on more managerial roles - and gladly.

Unlike most "Storytellers" that get burnt out from having to be the ones having to write and push the story along and not being able to play - Leigh and I have been graced by a wonderful group of players that write their own stories, develop their own plots and push them forward with a minimum of supervision or word from us - so that we also get to play our characters, develop our own storylines and enjoy this glorious hobby.

Even better than that - we have developed an entire circle of people that we heartily and happily call, friends.

I will say here again what Leigh and I have said before:

To all the players and characters that have come before, all those who have remained faithful over the years and all those who will join us in our future… this wiki, this game and indeed this city would not even be in existence were it not for you -from the bottoms of our undead hearts ~ Thank you.

Here’s to the foggy past, the ever enlightening and exciting present and the literally unwritten future.

Game on, friends, game on." ~Patrick

On a more personal note:

Leigh is a happily married resident of the Sunshine State - Florida.

Patrick is a happily married resident of the Sunflower State - Kansas. - Though he spends so much time in the "Show-Me" State it's apparently rubbed off.

Both are employed, yet still manage to find the time to put together things like this wiki and make themselves available on messenger systems and via e-mail to their players and all other inquirers.

They have managed to get together in real life and off the web on more than one occasion - a couple of times with other players as well - and found that the friendship they have formed on the web - quite nicely translates into the real world as well.

It was asked that we clarify here that Leigh is the nice one and Patrick is the asshole - but he insists that it is only when he is forced to be. "It makes it much simpler on good cop/ bad cop dress up day. Besides, Leigh's the only one the halo would fit, we just won't mention what's holding it up." ~ Patrick
