    Current Production:

    The Force of Destiny

    by Giuseppe Verdi

    Overview

Three lives are set on a collision course. Fate is the unseen but all-powerful master in this saga involving unknown identities, accidental meetings and dark confrontations, all playing out amidst a world at war. With Verdi at his most melodic, private moments and public spectacle blaze to life. Our new production— sleek and arresting—propels the central characters inexorably to an unforgettable end.

Sounds. The Force of Destiny was thought shocking at its premiere, but it soon became one of Verdi’s greatest hits. Urgent and full-blooded, this work calls for vocal power— and plenty of it.

Sights. As fate exacts its toll, personal hopes, horrors and fears become physically realized in our riveting, conceptual production. With sharp icons and progressively unstable and disjointed surroundings, the stage becomes the force of destiny itself, peopled by individuals struggling to control their lives and loves.

Stories. Leonora and Alvaro attempt to elope but are foiled by Leonora’s father. Alvaro’s pistol goes off accidentally and mortally wounds the old man, who curses his daughter. Leonora’s brother Carlo seeks to avenge their father’s death. Their lives intertwine amidst upheaval spanning the European continent, but ultimately the truth comes out and all must face their destinies.
