Hidden Cove is a fictional city, in a fictional setting based upon White Wolf's World of Darkness and more specifically Vampire the Masquerade, Werewolf the Apocalypse, Mage the Awakening, Wraith the Oblivion, Hunter the Reckoning and Demon the Fallen. (For information on what kinds of characters are being accepted for play at this time, please see our Rules section.)
Hidden Cove can trace it's ever so humble beginnings back to it's first incarnation in 1999 to Yahoo clubs. It has since found temporary residence in MSN Groups before coming back home again to Yahoo Groups earlier this year. This wiki is an entirely new creation for the city and the game and as such is still under much construction. Please be patient with our progress as over 7 yrs worth of information is alot to try to gather all in one place. If you have any questions at any time, please E-mail the Storytellers.
What & Who We Are
We are a collection of roleplayers that years ago came together under a singular vision that roleplay could be about ROLEPlaying instead of ROLLPlayng.
Our group is based upon the idea that intelligent thinking people could come together and have a great game and a bunch of fun if they could agree on certain principles. One of those principles is a sense of fair-play - giving every character, every player, an opportunity to run, participate and in general enjoy a storyline to the extent of their own choosing. We do have "Storytellers" but in our group - when it comes to actually playing the game - they take on more of an "advisory" role. What does that mean? Well - in the simpliest terms it means that the players themselves become the "storytellers", leaving our "official" STs to a more supervisory role. Only stepping in when there is a problem that cannot be solved between the players or when a judgment call is necessary for something in game. As a matter of fact - our STs play characters that are treated exactly the same as any character in the game. (If you doubt that, just ask them about Duncan's current in-play injuries or the time Kasymm was staked and squirrelled away.)
We like to refer to our group as "free-form" but that's true and not true. Because when it comes to character creation, the STs are very hands on and strict (especially with experienced players) - the "free-form" comes into where the game itself is played - but even then - you still have to respect the plotlines and characters of the other established players. We are also not completely "free-form" because when it comes to character creation and actually playing the game we follow the established rules of White Wolf's World of Darkness Games - mostly Vampire the Masquerade.
There is no one thing we can point out to say - this is our group and this is how we do things - because there are exceptions to every rule. All we can say is - we're unique from any other RP experience you may have been involved in. We're not for everyone - but we've had over 7 yrs, literally hundreds of players and over 30,000 posts - so apparently we've managed to find something that works.
So what would you lose taking a chance -- come join us, try it out and see if Hidden Cove doesn't bury itself a place deep in your heart as it has ours.
Getting into a New Group
The first big thing to get in good with our group is to READ THE Rules - all of them - even the ones you think won't apply to you.
After that-
We perhaps as much as any - realize that getting involved in a new group with a new set of players is never an easy task. So let us help you! We've been doing this a long time in this group, with this set of players and with this setting.
When it comes to character creation, listen, really listen to the STs and the suggestions they make. They know what is going to fit in our city and our community - they've seen it time and time again, so please LISTEN - they're really not trying to give you a hard time. They as much as anyone WANT NEW PLAYERS -- and they would love to see new players come in and become seasoned veterans. So please, before you just dismiss them as now knowing what they are talking about or because YOU KNOW BETTER - remember - they've been playing here for alot longer than you and have seen alot come and go. Please, listen.
When you begin to play if you'll allow us, we can direct you to the "hot spots" so that you can get your character into play as quickly as possible. But once you're there - make sure you have patience. Our players will involve you as quickly as they can - but they sometimes cannot drop everything they are involved in and come running to you, please understand that.
Also, help us by making a character that's cohesive to a socially driven environment. -- Realize please that since we don't "roll dice" at all - combat driven characters are going to be BORED in our group. That doesn't mean that there isn't action - it just takes a backseat - and there's alot of social interaction between the action - realize that. Be prepared for that.
E-Mail the STs.
Leigh and Patrick's e-mail addresses are all over this wiki. E-mail them with questions, problems, suggestions, etc. Communication is the key to any good rp experience, that's just as true here as anywhere.
Here again are the ST's e-mail addies wiezkid@yahoo.com, duncan_mc_cloed@yahoo.com
